Okay, I cannot hold back any longer.  I don't want to preach, but I can't sit by without saying anything at all, either.

- Gorgeous, Young, (Trophy) Wife
- Two great kids
- Two Harley Davidson Motorcycles (100% paid for)
- Nice wheels (Paid for)
- Pistol Permit and many great guns.
- Fishing Boat, Shanty and top-of-the-line gear.
- Great guitars and high end music making gear.
- A great group of friends.
- Money in the bank.
- Self Respect.
- Way, way more...  I am so lucky and so thankful.  I could go on for days.

When I quit drinking, I had NOTHING.  I didn't have a car or even a driver's license.

If alcohol is creating a problem in YOUR life, just do it- QUIT.  Alcohol is okay for some people, but not for everyone.  I haven't had a drink in 15 years, but I still see alcohol ruining lives all over the place.  Don't let it ruin your life!

You should chill... have a drink!

... I'm buying! :)

You did the right thing, but, you were preaching. I agree w/ you and come from the same place, but I don't preach on that subject, except to family.
The people that you're trying to reach aren't listening.
Funny thing, I find that I get hassled by people for not drinking, and will be socially excluded at some events.
When I first stopped drinking, maybe 30 years ago, I had people slipping alcohol into my drinks or buying me drinks and insisting I drink.
Had an ol buddy tell me a couple days ago I could improve my social skills if I took up drinking again.

Improve my social skills! I'm a big enough tool as it is. Hell, that's how I lost all my friends before.

But, what if someone was listening?  What if even only one person reads what I wrote and says to themselves, "I am going to quit drinking and buy me a couple Harleys, too!"

I didn't want to preach, I just wanted to tell my story on drinking and hopefully make a positive impression on someone who has a drinking problem.  I think your old buddy isn't much of a friend at all to make such a preposterous suggestion.  Just sayin'.

You're right. If just one person listens.

As for my friend, he's just not too bright when it comes to this issue.

I can't imagine! If someone wants to drink, fine, if not, equally fine, but slipping the "mickey" is wrong!

Always have the thermos of black coffee, and at times, I truly enjoy a splash of Kahlua in it.
