Ok so now everybody who uses 10" augers should register them as weapons because from the sounds of it on here ice fishermen are being killed every year by 10" holes. Next we will be required to put up fencing around them..........Or people should watch where they walk and keep kids away from 10" holes. Come on people, let's just fish!
don't need them, too big. you don't buy a 475. cal. just in case you might shoot a 200 lb. deer
You bet your a** I use a 30-06 and not a 22. Just for the exact reason you said. Because that is what I WANT to shoot. That is the goal you idiot. I don't walk in to the woods saying "I hope I get to shoot at a 125 lb 4 pointer today", obviously you do. Well fishing is the same way for me.I use a 9'' auger only becuase I don't have a 10'', but I am targeting LARGE Pike so an 8'' hole is going to be a real issue if I ever hook the one I am going fishing for in the first place.
we will be required to put up fencing around them..........
So if an adult knows the possible dangers of a 10" hole, why would they put their child in harms way ? If we have a kid small enough to fall in a 10" hole then that kid doesn`t go on the ice,period....Now how many fatalities have resulted from these evil 10" holes ? Please enlighten my apparent narrow mind set.
Yeah, I know how you guys work. When you see someone catching fish on tip-ups you come ruinning!
The state record walleye barely fit through a 10 inch hole and wouldnt have fit through an 8 inch.
The state record walleyes girth was about 20 inches so that means there is still almost 6 inches left to get the fish up the hole. Not really sure why it wouldnt fit in the hole and why it had to come through a ten inch hole. I mean I dont really care what people use for an auger and think all our efforts would be better spent discussing fishing, what to use where to fish, and so on but thats just me and look, i posted on this thread...twice LOL
Not to be splitting hairs here, but an 8'' hole has a circumference of 25.12 so it really would only have 5.12'', plus the state record girth could have been rounded down from 20.49 for all we know, so at that point you are only talking about 4.63 inches of water around a huge fish coming through a hole.
All this discussion and no one has mentioned the holes left by bait wells, live wells and beer cooler wells (these are made by drilling a collection of holes all touching each other and leaving a thin layer of ice in the bottom, in case you were wondering)
I was looking to see if any body mentioned bait hole, you want to talk about man eaters almost went down in a shanty one year trying to get it off the ice, got in side to rearrange every thing didn't look at the back of the shanty and oh boy dove out that door pretty fast thought I was going down
I love my 10" auger
As a fisherlady, Im a big fan of a nice 8 inch Dont get me wrong, I have no problems with a 10inch! Just a bit harder to handle. Its the damn live wells that people drill that pose more of a risk IMO.
