Crappie meet and greet near Bangor
« on: Jan 14, 2011, 08:03 AM »
Hey, How 'bout Hermon Pond or Fields Pond? 29th or 30th? There are other places, but these have parking and access.

Fields is pretty small, but nice crappies. Hooked something pretty bigthere last year. Couldn't move or turn it with 2# test, being as gentle as possible. I imagine it was a decent bass. I've never had a problem like that lmb up to 15" or so.

Somehow my last post got folded in with bee's. Is it because of similar titles?

Hope a few of us can make it!

That would be a good idea. It should get some of the Eastern folks interested.

Too far for ya, bee? I wanna try "Snake Pond" (ask MG) when I get my fancy  new do-dad. Not much further than Red Shack Cove from you, I think.

If it's on Hermon then I'll be there, for what it's worth.  I'm hoping to put The Lakehouse out there by then.  It's a bit more heavy than a traditional ice shanty, so need a bit more ice than the foot that was on Hermon yesterday.

I live around the corner in Newburgh and would love to go and meet up with everyone but Special Olympics state games are at Sugarloaf Sun, Mon and Tues and I coach my daughter for speedskating and my son Dreamcatcher will be at the tournament on Long lake up north. Anyways my best luck for crappies has been over by the inlet from Ben Annis, I have even hiked up to the little pond. We generally access at Jacksons Beach off the Newburgh road.

There's a landing at the park on the west end of the pond. There is a good sized parking lot there. Usaully you can drive right on the pond there too. Snomobile guys plow a big piece to run sleds on. Often there are plowed paths around that end too. Snopro has a fancy red "shack"" of the point a bout 1/2 mile out, over 18" water. That's where I've usually fished and met Snopro a couple years ago. I'd say go there. I'll probably get there before 9am. Got farm critters to feed.

Yes it is on the 30th, as for directions look for the town landing and thats how you get on hermon pond. My two red shacks will be staight out from the landing. If you come north bound from augusta on 95 you get off at carmel winterport exit take a right go about 1/8 mile take a left right after dysarts travel stop. When you take the left you will be following the interstate . At the stop sign ,which is about 1 1/2 miles you go left and go over the top of the interstate , keep straight till the road forks , you go right! After the right you go about 1 mile ,the road to pond is on right side, its a gated road but the gate is open. If you miss your turn to the pond you will go by the ski mountain, just turn there and come back!

The landing/parking area is in a community park that closes at dark.  Whoever watches the park closes the gate at that time.  If anyone intends to fish after dark then I recommend parking above the gate or getting in touch with me--I live about a five minute snowmobile ride from Hermon Pond and have room for a few to park.

I'm looking forward to it.

Lets see who is coming! I will be there with both shacks and will make sure we have plenty of places plowed off to fish! That should make it easy for people to get around on the ice.
Is it ice time yet???
