Once all this snow stops im going to run to barton to shovel out the shanty. While im there im thinking about burning a tank of fuel just drilling holes everywhere in hopes that it will freeze up and make sat. less slushy for the meet. Cant do the whole thing i know that but what do you think? Will it help? or should i not mess w it? Maybe I can get my buddy to bring his sled out and pack a nice trail down there too. ??

Deffinately let us know what you find out there Ed.  I really don't think
popping holes is going to make much of a difference.  When I was out
there Sun. there was no slush on the ice.  If your friend could  beat a
path down with his sled I'm sure that a whole lot of people would
appreciate it.  HighVoltage also said that he might bring his sled.

Folks with wheelers, at this point, I would not think you could get your
bikes to the ice.

I just want to reiterate that we are going to have to make this weather
dependent as I do snow removal.  If it is snowing, I will have to be working.

Hey guys. Shoveled out the shanty today at Barton's Cove, I was the first one out there since the snow. Looks like there's about 12-14" of snow, so it may be pretty slushy Saturday. I drilled my 5 holes and fished for about an hour and a half. Got pretty sloppy. I don't think quads are gonna cut it, but sleds should do fine. Had one flag, but it only brought the button down about a foot. So I think a calico may have just bumpped it. But the ice is between 12-18" depending on where on the cove you are.

Is there slop on the ice ed?  Or just around your holes.  There wasn't any slop
on the ice at all when I was there Sun.  I figured this snow would kill the quad
idea.  It would be great if a sled were to make a few passes.  It is a short walk
in but it would be better if it were sled packed.  I'll have to try to stop over there
today, perhaps I'll catch you in your shack.

Just anound the holes and the edges. Everywhere else is snow. I talked to my buddy last night and we might bring the sleds down this morning to pack it down a bit.

Good morning Cap't and everyone,

Is this still a go? Heard sketchy info on rain/sleet/snow in the afternoon.

Also, is there a place you recommend close to Gill that I can get some shiners? I am coming outta Framingham, granted the event is still a go.

Thanks for all your help.

It is definately game on.  Calling for snow flurries in AM heavier in pm 1"-2" accumulation total.

Bait shop within 5 minutes of Cove.  Pipiones (sp?) in Turners.  Just continue on Rt. 2 past cove
about a half mile to the lights and make a left accross the bridge.  Go 2 blaocks to lights
in Turners (mountague) and Pip's is on the left.

Am heading over now to check conditions.

Hello,  I cant say if its still on or not, ( I hope so) but as far as bait if you take the Rt 202 ext. off Rt 2 I think its the athol ext. about a mile up 202 is a place called Flaggs they will have bait. Other than that there is a place really close to the cove BUT the bridge to get there is beeing worked on so its now a one way, so the way back is harder if you don't know the area. I can pick up exta bait if needed, I live colse by to the cove. Just let me know. I'd be glad to help.

Thank you very much Cap't, and Edneck... yeah, I don't know the area at all... if you wouldn't mind, please pick me up some bait. I will flip you some cash when I see you.

I will be the short fat guy, wearing the red wind jacket with a full beard. Kinda look like a cave troll. ;)

Ed,

Haven't gotten over to the cove yet, did you get a chance to run the sleds over it?

I would think it should be fine then.  I will bring my two ten foot loading planks just
in case the edges get to mucky but I don't fore see a big problem.

Just grabbed the barrel sled and a couple of bags of wood.  Need to pull some pike bait
out of the freezer and skew up some shrimp, charge up the flasher.....

35 Degrees and only a 7 mph wind !  To heck with you "I live in New England
but I'm afraid of walking in snow" types.  This might be the best weather we
have ever had on the cove gathering!

Look for the barrel sled if you don't know me:

Be careful not to put words in others mouths there buddy ;) I don't see anybody afraid of anything.... What I do see is 'enough is enough' and why not find a place where it's 'normal'  ;D ... at least one time out of the whole season

You be slinging these stereoTypes around,  that could get you in trouble  @)
We'll be out in the same nice weather!

Hey... Have a great time and I hope you guys slaughter whats out there!  I'll be on the lookout for the gala event photo opps!

Sorry, I won't be making it out there tomorrow. It's not the walking in snow part, just my car and snow do not get along very well. If anyone's going to be in the metrowest area PM or email me maybe we can hit up somewhere around here. I haven't fished with anyone on here so hopefully we can before the ice thaws. Good luck to everyone going to Bartons and the Cape!! Hope you guys see lots of flags
