3 days at Devils Lake, ND
« on: Jan 01, 2011, 05:30 PM »
I just got back from Devils Lake.  It was a great trip for the experience but bite was slow due to it being somewhat "warm."  The last day there a blizzard blew in and we started to land some fish on the ice.  Our guide with Perch Patrol worked very hard to get us on fish. Harder than he has ever had to.  Our group isn't much for sitting around hoping something swims by.

I've been to Devils Lake a couple times and had fun even when the fish weren't biting.  Sometimes it's good just to get away.  How much ice do they have now?  Can you drive on the lake yet?

There was about 14"-15" of ice.  There was also about 10" of snow.  Some drifts were well over 18".  The guide got stuck once.  This was taken at the beginning of the blizzard that blew in our last evening on the ice.

So far I have only been there open water fishing. There's so many puddles to put a jig into I don't know where I will be next!

Amgrad,

Thanks for the report and the few pics of what looks like some pretty extreme weather. Poor Mr. Perch looks like he was frozen in seconds  ;D. I like to see folks with a sense of adventure reporting. Devils Lake is on the bucket list for a winter trip some day.
