ATV/OHRV Regs
« on: Jan 01, 2011, 06:06 AM »
I'm looking to find out what the deal is on ATV use on ponds in VT. The fish and game and DMV websites are not super helpful. Any of you guys know if NH registration is still legal in VT for use on ponds? I have a polaris ranger with tracks that I want to use in VT this year but can't seem to find much info. After the holidays I'll start making calls but thought I'd ask here first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah I was not sure of the regulations either so I emailed VT Fish and Wildlife...

My Email:

Hello,

I have a question that I can not seem to  find the answer too about ATV use on our
lakes and ponds.

What are the rules for using my ATV on Lake Champlain while ice fishing,
I assume it must be register, but does it need to be insured does a helmet
have to be warn... things like that or do you have a link that explains.

Thank you very much for your time.

There response:

Mike,

When using your ATV on any frozen body of water your required to have it registered but you do not need insurance.
It is not a law to ware a helmet but it highly recommended.

Thanks

Thanks paint. Does anyone know if NH registrations are still legal in VT? They used to reciprocate, not sure if they do or not anymore.

Check out the NH F+G Dept.website under frequently asked questions-It says that ATV registration is reciprocal between the two  states.

The state considers any frozen body off water a st highway. Maybe wrong but I just insured my snowmobile $75 for the yr., betting fine is a bit more.

This is true I don't recall a helmet law on snowmobile trails always wore one though. I didn't bring one up to Carmi yesturday......no blind corners or high speed runs.

campfindit2... I sent a email to the fish and game on 12-20-2010 and received a reply
on 12-21-2010 from a person in the Law Enforcement Division...

I have saved the email so if any issues I have it to fall back on...

I have found anytime I email them, they are quick to respond and seem to be accurate with there info...
