Polar Ice Tip-ups
« on: Dec 29, 2010, 06:51 PM »
Just got a couple of Polar Ice Original Style Tip-ups from the Mrs. for Christmas. There is no directions to speak of with the packaging. It is basically easy to figure out but for the life of me I don't see what the extra "D" shaped wire band on the tip wire is for. Anyone out there that could explain its purpose?  ???  ???

I believe that is for a lighter strike setting. Not 100% thought.

So you are suppose to hook this "D" loop onto the strike catch???

Are you suppose to place the "D" loop over the top of the post onto the opposite side???

you put it on the same side.  The loop of the D is the part that connects it to the trip part.  ITs either the light bite or heavy bite side

instead of placing the flag wire under the "spinner", put the "d" shaped wire under it..  I'm not exactly sure thats the reason it is there, But I believe it is.. I could be wrong .....

I've found that if it slides up or down to far then in catches on the spinner and the flag cant go up so i just cut them off

Thanks everyone!!! I found a web site that showed how to use the HT Polar Ice Tip-ups and he did put the D-shaped wire under the spinner leaving the flag wire above the spinner. If it doesn't work well I'll just cut it off too!!!!
Thanks again for all the responses.

I would take this gentleman's advice before you go fishing. I had the same issue and you will lose fish because of it. not only does the flag not go up but the spool can't turn. It is discouraging to check your trap and find you're fishing with a leader sans bait and hook.
