Inventions by the Year 2055 in Ice Fishing
« on: Dec 16, 2004, 08:27 AM »
How do you see our sport changing in 50 years as far as inventions go?

How about snowmobiles that have power augers and sonar built right in so you don't have to leave your seat when searching for fish?

Let's put our inventive minds to work here.  Give me some good examples!

Please, no politics on this thread.  For that, check the Grumpy Old Men Board ;)

okay its an atv truly capable of all terrains..land snow, water, maybe even air by then.which will open up numerous angling opportunities.it burns a clean, inexpensive new fuel source.it definately has a built in, gps, flasher, cell phone, digital camera, personal computer, and with the puch of a button, pops into the shelter of all shelters, and it only weighs 112 lbs. your auger will be an antique as the future will hold a lazer the size of a lipstick capable of cutting a hole in the ice in a flash.of course by then global warming will push us a little farther north to fish.

How about the ability to put some sort of dome over smaller bodies of water so we can ice fish year round. If we can make ice for hockey in the summer why not for fishing? At least maybe be able to say ok, this year the ice fishing WILL START on Nov 1st.

Vexilar will finally come out with the FL-28 that now has an adjustable zoom feature.  Anglers everywhere will rejoice at the prospect of shelling out an extra $100 for a feature that is totally useless.

You will never have to fish alone again. At a push of a button on your cell phone will deliver you one of these to use for the day.

I was kinda shooting for the whole year round dome idea but that went out the window when I saw Vancouvercanuck's idea. But I have a feeling that my average number of fish caught in a day would dramatically drop. ::)

How about x-ray binoculars that will see right through the ice to the bottom?  Could also be used on vancouvercanuck's suggestion!!!  All though there is really not much left to the imagination in that outfit!!!

In 2055 . i would be 98 , at that age i think she would probably still work better than Viagra , to get my short ( ice) rod to jiggle.

If i had that choice today , i think i 'd rather stay at home w/ her for the day , ice fishing could wait till tomorrow !!

We will see aqua vu come out with a new camera that can see right thru the ice with a special zoom feature for spotting and sight fishing at any depth. However, it will also be found to be able to look thru people's clothes, and will become discontinued, only to make people millionaires who own them and sell them on ebay.
Play 'em if you wanna fillet 'em!

INSTRUCTIONS: After placing the Floe-Mat in the water be sure the two wires are closest to you on the shore or dock. The Mat will self 'inflate' to cover aproximately one(1) acre.
Plug the wires into the recepticle on the Portable Power Unit,(PPU), and your portable Ice Floe will ice over  enough for you and your friends, shanty, augers, and all you'll need for an Ice Fishing Experience as you maneuver the Floe around the lake of your choice all through the SUMMER MONTHS, and YES, even in the winter. If you've ever wanted to fish Lake Okeechobee while you're on vacation in Florida here's your chance. Ice-Fish that is.

The entire Portable Ice-Floe comes comlete so you and your guests can Ice-Fish year 'round. At only 26 lbs. in a 1 foot square box it'll qualify as carry-on, and can't be hurt by airport scanners.

Add the Super Wireless Remote Rapala Ratletrap and you won't even have to get up off yer cooler. The lure just pulls the fish back up through the hole into the automatic fish cleaner after tracking it down with it's Fish Selector species sensor,(Pat.Pend.).
All folks follow Chainsaws first law of diminishing enthusiasm, "Ya just hafta want to do some things more than others."

I would have a better chance to catch a 30 lb. Mac than one of those, and I would get into less trouble when I took it home.  The only thing I want to see changed in 50 years would be a ice shack that is 50'X50', weighs 5 lbs, folds to sled size.  That way a bunch of us ice heads could be in the same shack fishing.  Of course it would have an automatic BS eliminator but no lie detector, the noise would scare off the fish.
Here fishy fishy fishy, I don't want to hurt you, I just want to catch you!

In 50 years, the newest fad will be going old school.  No more using the "instant ice floe"  or fishing under a dome, using automatic tip-up winders or the new vexilar 128 (which retails for $49,995.00 plus tax), no lazer depth finders, or read through the ice aqua-vu, no bottom line sidefinder which will give you the size, species and exact location of fish in lakes up to 27 miles away over dry land and also tell exactly what the are feeding on and make you an "insta-lure".

Nope, back to "old school"  the purists will use their hand auber and not the lazer auger.  Bait their own hooks rather than using self baiting hooks.  Fiberglass rods, rather than "moon-tec's ultra flex titanium".  Line will be Spider wire, rather than the new spider silk, manufactured by gentically altered spiders. You will use an antic filet knife to clean your fish rather than "popeils' filet-o-matic" by Ronco.

You will wear thermal underwear, parkas, gloves, boots, scarves etc, rather than turning on the "insta-climate" personal weather zone and fishing in shirt sleeves and bermuda shorts.

Unfortunately,  a sudden increase in deaths of ice fisherman will occur,  because,  they don't dress warm enough, fall through thin ice (who knew in 2055 it was not safe to go on 2 inches of ice without your "insta-ice floe"?)

And last but not least,  the dead art of of telling lies about the fish you caught will be reborn because,  the "hubby-watch monitor" will not work while outside, the domes (think the movie The Truman Show )
