I don't use asso but I've always used 2 lb for gills and 4 lb for perch.

Believe yourbobbersdown is the only place carrying ASSO in N.A. Been using the Micron 3 for years in 2# for pannies without a problem. Thin, sinks like a rock and tough as nails. Have occasionally been in the position of having to go really ultra light with the 8oz as a tippet, landed 9"+ 'gills, 12"+ crappies and perch without a problem. Patience is a virtue............the 3# would be a good choice for most, thinner than most others 2#

Don't need to spool up entirely with it. Usually only put on 10'-20' more on than the depths I'll fish, can use anything as a backing, Can always tie on more during the season if needed. Have 2# golden Stren as a base and 50' of ASSO Micron 3 in 2# to fish with, 50yd spool does 3 rods

The 1000 ft roll does not have to be ASSO. I would like a large roll for all my reels, can be Strean is what I would like to buy. I get you about putting a small amount of line on for ice fishing
