Hot Coffee anyone?
« on: Mar 13, 2010, 03:51 AM »
Many probably know this, but a friend pointed it out to me, and it it great!  Before putting coffee into your thermos in the morning, boil some water on the stove and put it into your thermos first for a few minutes; even hot tap water helps.  It gets the thermos hot, and when you put your coffee in, it doesn't cool down from having to heat up the thermos 1st...

Does anyone still make a glass vacuum bottle? I have one of those Thermos brand pump pots I use at home I''m thinking of taking on the ice too. The coffee seems to stay hotter in the glass than it does in my stainless steel thermos with the boiling water preheat. I just think the glass bottles although they are fragile, keep things hotter.

For hunting I use the thermos but for ice fishing, if we are going to be there for the day, we brew it on the ice. Nothing better then a good cup of fresh perked coffee...

my biggest gripe with thermoses is not keeping it hot in the first place but keeping it hot after you take that first cup out. Seems once you break the seal your done for. I now take instant and heat water on my buddy but sure would be nice to have a thermos that can keep it hot after being opened once

Go on ebay and find yourself a real (not made in china) Stanley green stainless thermos, mine is good for at least 24 hours. Get the big one, you won't run out.

that may quite well be the only thermos on the face of the earth that I haven't yet tried. Thanks for the tip, I'll start looking

It don't have to be just coffee in there either, soups and other favorite hot liquids (cocoa) work good with this tip as well!!

UI use the floating thermos. It has an outer shell like a jet sled. Once you pour a cup the cup cools off fast, but if you
screw the lid back on, it will stay hot all day or until its gone.

Definitely go on Ebay and grab the vintage Stanley thermos. I have two and they keep things hot for a full day. All metal (except for the cork!) and MADE IN USA

I just picked this one up from LL Bean.  It's built like a Stanley Thermos but you don't have to take the cap off to drink from it.

X2  my grandfather gave me one of these 25 years ago and the thing will honestly keep water very hot for 24 hrs.

I also put boiling water in mine the nite before, when I'm fixing the coffee pot. It will still burn my hand the next morning. I've been married for 30 years, and I've had my Stanley longer than I've had my wife. Neither look quite as good as when I got 'em, but both still get the job done. ;D

I just make my coffee fresh on the ice with my 1 burner stove and a pot to melt snow. I found these Maxwell House single serving coffee "tea bags" that you just dip in the boiling water until it's as strong as you like, then drink as usual. It uses regular grounds in the bag, nothing to dissolve like instant coffee. Not all grocery store's carry them, but when I see them I stock up.

I do, and, in other words I guess when you have an item like a car or truck that's still under warranty, you just throw the car out and buy a new one or go to Billy-Bobs garage and pay out of your own pocket, cause you have to pay for gas to get back to the dealer, take time off work, buy the time you do that, ya, buy another new one....

Not really fair comparing a $40 Thermos to a $40,000 car warranty wise, but that's just my opinion.

$5 in shipping vs. $20+ for a thermos...  why wouldn't you send it back?
