venison chili and brats...venison stew....Also, I like to put a couple of nice hind 1/4 roasts in a slow cooker, with some hot peppers, couple beef oxo cubes, bottle of beer, onions, and just let it cook until it jus shreds apart...put that on a big buttered hardroll..mmmmmmm  Seems to be a theme here, i better go get in the woods!!

I just read about putting boiling soup and a couple of brats into a thermos, that would definitely get me through a day on the ice. I don't usually get hungry until it's too late, then I am completely useless. If I remember to eat a lunch I'm good until well into the night.
BTW, you guys are killing me with the Moose meals, I had some as a kid and have missed it ever since. Unfortunately we have killed most of the Moose down here :-\. I haven't gotten into Elk hunting yet and nobody here likes me enough yet to share :'(.

Simple & easy recipes with not a lot of pans or bowls is the ticket. Prepare at home the night before & just warm up.  Here are my submissions:

Sausage links/venison/Elk in the pan in the morning - Simply grab & eat while fishing.

Anything on a stick.
   Kabobs
   Jumbo shrimp

And ole' Iowa Hawkeye tailgating favortite - PORK ON A STICK ! Works well. Marinate at home for 24 hrs in the brine, skewer it the night before & shove in a tupperware. Just heat it up on the grill while you fish. No plates, condiments. Just grab the stick & enjoy!!  And yes, we are still talking about cooking!!!   :o

Of course brats as already mentioned

Chili or other stew - I make it up a couple days in advance, let it marry in the fridge for a day & freeze it in an ice cream bucket, small or large.  This works well for 3-4 day trip since travels well in the cooler. It can sit outside the shack in the bucket until time to use. Bring inside & let it warm up until slides out of the bucket then plop it in the pot & heat - EASY!!

Want something to warm you up? - Jalepeno poppers wrapped with Bacon!! - Make them up prior & shove in a tupperware. Throw on the grill & enjoy - Again while fishing!  Very tasty & will give you a little kick.

AND ARE YOU READY FOR THIS!! THE BEST FOR LAST!!!!!!!-Dutch Oven Anyone?!! - My new cooking endeavor.  These things were made for outdoor cooking & you can have a whole meal in a pot.

WARNING!  Hold on to your horses, this is good!

DUTCH OVEN - ONE POT MEAL:

   - Your favorite smoked sausage or venison - The more smoked the better.
   - Medium red potateos
   - Cabbage cut in wedges
   - Sweet corn, halved - Can omit if cannot find but could be in freezer section in winter months
   - Broth (Chicken or Beef)

Clean & quarter potatoes & line bottom of dutch oven - layer in order: Cabbage, onion, corn & sausages on top. This is important so the juices of the smoked sausage will fall on the veggies when cooking. Add can of broth or how much you like. Cook for 1 hr to 11/2 hrs prob on med-low to med depending on cooking set-up & air temp.  Check potatoes with fork if done. Then enjoy!  A whole meal in the pan. Place everything in the dutch oven at home prior & have in the fridge. Just keep from tipping over in transit.

Seriously - Dutch ovens can be the ice fisherman's best friend as far as eating goes.  A lot of good recipes for a very versatile cooker.

Sorry got so long.  ;)

Best food on ice:  I'll let you know as soon as I find out what my buddy brings today. Last year's first trip was select Wisconsin  whitetail tenderloin and onions, melted swiss cheese and served hot on a bun....mmm....good
It was hard to stop munching and catch fish.
We went outdoors to feast and fishing developed.

Whatever you can cook on a Coleman 2-burner stove!

Bacon, egg, sausage and cheese for breakfast usually.
Burgers, fajitas, chicken parm, a pan of sausage, peppers, and onions. Stuff like that can be prepped and/or partially cooked in advance if you want to pack light or save time.

Since we're near the shore, there's definitely seafood on the menu for some. Crab cakes, blackfish cakes. Chowders, gumbos, filets. I'm organizing an event Sunday that will have some ninja ice chefs in attendance. Pics to follow.

My friend Ron will also be doing a big crock pot of chili. Along for the ride will be an AGM marine battery, and 500 watt inverter attached as an experiment. The plan is to unplug the crock from the house right before he leaves, and plug it back in when he first sets up. Anyone who loves math and wants to estimate how long he can serve hot chili from that setup is welcome to jump in. ;)

sheesh do you guys even fish or just run a 5 star resturant out there???  :P
Girls fish too.

home made burritos are hard to beat when warmed up on a mr buddy or the top of a stove.   the options are limitless with a burrito.
.
sausage, egg, cheese, hashbrowns.  or ham    or bacon    or all of the good porks stuff.
.
peanut butter and jelly.
.
cheese, catsup (or pizza sauce)  and a touch or oregano or italian seasoning.
.
vension, onions, peppers, cheese and refried beans.  mushrooms too.
.
CHILI, CHEESE DOGS - with onions and mustard.
.
brats.
.
i can't think of much that won't work in a 12'' burrito wrapper from gordon foods.
