No problem but I still think its just putting in a lot of time. Doing the same thing over and over again even if no flags. It was on a live shiner with a flourocarbon leader. I only have one tipup with flouro leader on it. The rest are steel leaders. I don't think it was the flouro that made it hit the bait though. Foot off the bottom.
Jay and Bill Congratulations! They are both incredible fish. We do not see them like this everyday. Anyone who says they would let those fish go after putting in the time for a big northern like you guys have obviously do not fish hard enough and would not be having such a stupid debate. Its about two awesome fish. So nice job keep them coming. Its nice to see the right people catching these fish.
I hear ya. Thanks.You know I really didn't want this catch to be spoiled by a debate over whether it should have been released or mounted. It was never a question in my mind. I was mounting it and that's it. I have thrown many big fish back down the hole and have people that will back it up. I have caught pin pike that I never brought to be weighed in. I just put them back down the hole after a quick picture. Getting the pins were not important to me. But this fish was different and I will not regret it.It really gets me sick how people judge on this site. It has changed in the past few years.
Well now that just sounds like a backhanded insult to the people who are amateurs just learning the ropes.
Using images with a tape measure and taking the greatest girth measurement you can easily determine every measurement on the fish at a later time. Its quite simple really.
If possible could you give us a few more details, not the lake but bait, leader or anything else you wouldn't mind shareing. If you do not want to I respect that. I told him as the mouth opens, grab his mouth and jaw and lift. No gaff involved. Have never used one on big fish. Yes it was mounted - no debate on that.
