Northern IL ice
« on: Feb 04, 2010, 01:50 PM »
I was just wondering what is the average live span of the ice around here. This is my 1st year in IL and wondering how much longer I have. :icefish:

Impossible to say.  Depends on the weather (as if you needed to hear that), but I'm hoping we'll be good til the end of the month.

Thanks for the reply. I know it is impossible to say because of the weather just looking for info of the past. Mid to end of Feb. or 1st part of march I'm just wondering what has happend in the past.

It can go anywhere from end of november all the way to about the second week in march. We don't usually don't stay frozen all the way through either. A lot of times we get a thaw at somepoint in january and a second freeze up. Normally it is sometime between mid december until the beginning of march
