airplane jig for trout
« on: Feb 03, 2010, 04:15 PM »
has anyone had success with an airplane jig?  I bought one because it seems like all the ice fishing guys love them almost as much as the sweedish pimple, but i haven't caught anything on the airplane yet.  any advice on how to fish it?

We used to fish airplanes in SD for Walleye, Salmon and and big Brookies under the ice. I remember them working really well around first ice when fish were still pretty aggressive early in the season. The jigs have a lot of action so you don't necesarily need to constantly "jig" them, more like a quick lift 3-4" up and then drop your rod tip quick until you feel the jig float to the end of the slack, let it sit for a second and repeat!
