« on: Feb 03, 2010, 04:13 PM »
I have been using 8 lb test up at canyon ferry, and was just curious what everyone else has been usuing.  I was breaking off alot of fish with 4lb so recently made the switch to some heavier stuff and havent broken one off since

i only use #4. I haven't really had any problems with the smaller test, you just have to let them run a while longer and gaff them if you want to keep the fish or get a hand wet. I have seen a huge difference in the amount of fish I catch compared to some of my friends that use the heavier line. I do however fish alot in 8 fow or less.

If your going to go with bigger line it might be a good idea to throw floro, even if its just a couple feet of tippet.  Light line rocks

We've always used 10# and have always hammered the trout, not because we thought we'd catch one that big, but the occasional carp would usually trash the lighter weight stuff. I think the main thing is get a quality fishing line. I know I bought some 4# once that would scare the fish before they'd even think about biting, but it was real cheap.
