Report on Jiffy Ripper Blades
« on: Jan 21, 2010, 02:36 AM »
Hi Folks,
I posted a while back about the merits of replacing my regular Jiffy blade with a Ripper blade I picked up for the princely sum of $5.00 at Wallyworld last spring.
Thought I'd update you on my impression of this blade.

I replaced the blade about 3 weeks ago and the first time using it was through 13" of clear ice. My buddy had his Eskimo with an 8" running and was starting his first hole when I got my Jiffy Model 30 with a 10" started. It was about -25C and I was on the choke and warming it up and the auger was already drilling. It took less than 5 seconds to drill. I got into my second hole and drilled it just as buddy finished his first. I then took off the choke and finished holes 3, 4 and 5 and completed it as buddy finished his second hole. He figures his needs sharpening but still was in awe at how fast the thing cuts.
The results have been consistent the last 4 or 5 trips out. My buddy doesn't even get his auger out anymore - he scoops out the holes and follows me. He can't clean them out as fast as I drill them.

I think that this blade is an awesome upgrade over the regular one.

My humble opinion only,
Glen
