Tiny black spots on perch
« on: Jan 18, 2010, 06:52 PM »
I went perch fishing last week and about 30% of what I caught had tiny black spots on them. (kind of a pepper look) Is that some kind disease or something. Not all the perch i caught had them. I wonder if they are safe to eat. Any info would help, thanks

call your regional FWP office and ask for one of the fisheries biologists. they will be able to help.

They actually call it black spot disease. I believe its a parasite that goes through several stages and hosts (google it and it will show you). Totally harmless and the fish are edible. I've also seen this on trout as well.
