Rhody FNG goes to rehab - tip up rehab that is....

So I am new to ice fishing.

Last year I scored a bunch of smelt in ME and this year am trying some more local hard water in RI.

I did a trade with a fellow last year and didn't really pay that much attention to what he gave me.  I was mostly interested in the two (2) rods we traded.  Upon further inspection - I scored!


These are all old school 40 up tip ups.  All are in working condition, but all also need some TLC and updating.




first I stripped all the line and other terminal gear.

Wiped them all down and then masked off the top part of the tip ups.

The are all primed in this pic.  Tomorrow, onto the blaze orange!!

New flags, replace rusted HW, respool and re rig.  I should be ready just in time for the thaw.

Wow everbodys on here now. Those are nice tip ups there, i used to use those.

OK.  the obsession continues.  Here are the same tip ups after a few coats of fluorescent orange spray paint and the line stripped off.



Bennies has a pretty good deal on ice dacron - $4 for 450 yards.

Also here is my little jig box.  I don't know why, but I get the feeling it might grow rapidly soon.



Flik - do you recognize those two jigs in the middle - one white  with eyes and one chrome?

I think that the fluorescent orange paint will make the flag hard to see but good luck

I shall change my flag color from blaze orange to Fluorscent Green with a reflective strip.  Good call.  Thanks.

Yea i know those. I got mine im my box already. If we hook up on the ice i got some of the jigs i made for you.

tonights update.

The priming is completed.
Three (3) coats of blaze orange is completed.
Four (4) coats of clear coat is completed.
The flags and reflectors have been rehabbed.

Tomorrow is new line and rigging for all!!!!

I am sure this means a warm spell melting what we have for hardwater thus far.
