Yeah, definitely a good time.  We had a few more flags after you guys left, mostly spits but a couple more pickerel got dried off for a minute.  None of the fish landed were mine, though.  :'(  I guess that's what you should expect when you use the biggest bait you have.

Funny story after you guys all left yesterday. Mark and I were wrapping up our traps and the one closest to where we parked goes off. We get to it and it's running like crazy! As was the par for the day, it spit the hook. Mark re-sets the trap and 2 minutes later it goes off again. Same deal, spinning like mad and again took about 30-40 yards into the corner. This time he loses the bait on it and again no fish. I had just pulled a trap so I had a baited set up in hand. I drop it in and 30 seconds later (while we are standing right on top of the trap) it goes screaming line off again! Same direction and same amount of line off. Again, the fish gets into the corner and spits the hook. All 3 flags were from the same hole and no more than 10 minutes went by from first to third. We had obviously pi$$ed that fish off as he wanted nothing going down that hole.

I'm planning on trying again next Monday if anyone wants to go. I really think I almost had my first pike yesterday.

How are you baiting the hooks, lip, dorsal or tail?
When you get that many dropped baits, it definitely sounds like pikerel/pike.
I usually start off hooking through the lip, and if I start getting "the droppers", I'll change to hooking just below the dorsal fin.

I like that pond year round because of the potential for good fish year round.
I was kayaking there this past year and encountered the resident beaver many times at night.
(Man, that thing is big and makes a huge splash with it's tail slap.)

I had all dead bait so everything was dorsal hooked. We had hits all day but no takers.

Yeah, we saw you over there in your shanty.  I didn't see many fish on top of the ice, and I had my binoculars to watch everybody.  They just weren't quite hungry enough yesterday I guess.

Also, I forget how short I am until I see myself in a picture with other people.  I think next time I'll stand on my bait bucket for the group pic...

I don't feel so bad for not being able to make it, then.  I mean, if I had made it, you would have seen a pike.  Yeah. That's what I meant...
