I hearby nominate Lake Sherwood the spot for an annual IS outing, they're exactly right when they say the that you can walk right on at commerce road. I've had enough I'm getting my permission back and Barney Fife can do what he's gotta do...but I do think it wouldn't hurt to call the Dnr and inquire. Set the date boys...they cant arrest us all. Where do you reside Kelly, i'm in Farmington Hills

Novi.
I fished with a buddy that has permission and he said they harass the hell out of him.
He's no cupcake and thick skinned though ;D

ive got some family that live on that lake. used to fish it quit abit with them on hard or soft water we always did great. used to get big crappies,14 in perch,11 in gills, theres huge pike and real nice walleye. havent fished it in yrs though. my cousins say it not the same anymore. all the ( you cant tell me where the hell i can fish even though you paid for these fish) types started coming in droves. they must be all libs with that ( you do the work ill reap the rewards mentality) :cookoo:. guys there is no argument here! they pay for the fish you do not. how about i come over to your house and take some beers out of your fridge?i think i have rights to them even though you bought them. ill take the public side walk to get there. they have what you want so your just going to take it?? come on.

Ryan, I got a couple beers for ya all ya have to do is ask. As far as reaping their rewards read the dnr book regarding angler rights. As for those cold beers they're sitting on the deck in the back, don't mind the german rottweiler cruising around back there, his name is barney fife lol

sure thing as long as ur rotty doesnt mind my two 80 and 90 pound pits. and while their busy playing ill have a beer or two. so your saying that if you had a pond that you personally stocked with fish on your property and a bridge went next two a corner of it, you would have no problem with with people coming and taking the the fish that you payed for out of it??

ryan,

The argument that the association pays for the fish seems quuite null and void given that the DNR stocking site does nnot list "ANY" plants in many years. That lake connects to the HURON RIVER via the south end under Sleath Road. All plants must be "DNR Permitted". Just look at other local private lakes or association plants such as Middle Straights, Loon etc...

I call "Bluff" on the "We stock and pay for the fish in this lake". Or they are doing it illegally...... and that there may be something to pursue as well... Just saying ;)

ryan,

You also go so far as to "Blame" other sportsmen for the decline of the fish size and population in Sherwood. If you are a Biologist and have data then I appologize in advance for stating that you make assumptions that may be baseless. To the north of Lake Sherwood there are hundreds of homes that have been constructed over the past ten years and construction continues. The companies have been sued and or forced to increase the sedimentation controls since the lake was beginning to silt over and get cloudy. This can impact spawning significantly, change temps etc.

Also the formerly fertile filtration swamps are now road beds and homes. The Lake to the north was a prime pike spawning ground as well as Crappie and gill sanctuary. It is now home laden and changed. The lakes ecology has changed a great deal from suburban encroachment, motorized sports use, eutrophication etc.

To blame sportsmen for the demise, the dozen or two guys that would fish the lake a handful of times a year is rediculous. You owe the sportsmen an appology for the baseless blame, albeit I doubt they get one.
I live walking distance from the lake and have watched the area change and see first hand the factors that can effect fish populations. You may want to do some homework on the big picture before blaming fellow fishermen for the associations woes.

hey RL very good points. like i said im just going on reports from my family. i do remember fishing it when i was alot younger and there would be few if any people out there. last time i fished it there were piles of people and very few had legal access to the lake(and yes we talked to quite few and none lived on the lake). If i offened anyone by saying it was their fault for the fish decline i do apologize . my main point was about this new attitude people seem to have ( and our sociaty as a whole) of f%^$you! you cant tell me what i can and can not do!. that sure is a SPORTSMAN mentality to have.

It doesn't matter who paid for the fish, if you can access via a public right of way (which you can) then its legal to be out there.  They don't own the water, and last time I checked everyone pays for the DNR.

As far as the decline in fishing I'd be more apt to blame all the homeowners for clearing out the weeds and making their own private beaches.

I dunno Ryan, if my pond had a bridge, road, or easement then it wouldn't be my pond would it? Views sound a lil too neoconservative to me, but i guess i'm a lil liberal, good thing though because i can honestly say that i didnt vote for that fella from texas that sent our country down the crapter for 8 years.

If fish can swim into the lake from the Huron, then "we" taxpayers are paying for those fish every year.  The Huron is a public river, in which gets stocked by the DNR.  Since it is connected to the Huron, the law in Michigan states: you cannot own the water, nor can you own the fish.

Gee Andy, I was just starting to see some credibility in your posting till you dropped this incomprehensible bomb.....  :cookoo:

Diddle, you are correct. That lake empties into the Huron less than a mile south of the lake. Albeit at times the drainage is dry, it is full a good part of the year.

I think everyone got a little side tracked on this topic. The fact of this topic should be if there is a legal access to this lake then you should not get ran off it.... Would I be upset if I lived on the lake and guys had a loop hole to get on.... Yes but the fact is it is legal!... If you do not want folks on your lake you should go stay on one of those Bill Dance man made lakes in FL that are in a private community and landlocked by private estates. Now if there is no legal access then you should stay off, but sounds like there is

Example... I fish a canal down river for perch,  Ipark on the road where there are no signs and I walk over the guard rail ( city property) and walk down below the bridge.... I never touch the folks property but they try to call the police. I never get kicked off because I am legal... Now I always pick up my trash or any other left from someone else... I would even give the ol bat some fish if she was nicer

Carver,

Good points here. Yet this lake has a unique make-up called "Residents". Similar to the canal a few miles away you and I fish, where 70 year old ladies will come out on the balconies of their 400 grand homes, never having fished a day in ten years, yelling at us that we are not allowed to fish "Their" lake.

Sherwood is similar. The issue revolves more around the attitudes of the people living there, than access, etc.... At least it does for many of the posters so far. As we have concluded that they have not paid for plantings in over ten years, unless they have done it illegally.  :-\

Nice to know the law isn't it.... You know what upsets me is all this talk of access or lack of for that matter. I just got word lastnight I lost the parking spot a cotton road on LSC.... Just seems unless you own land you cannot get anywhere anymore.... Is it slobs making mess, people getting snotty, combination of that and a crappy economy... I don't know just seems like getting on decent fishing grounds is impossible anymore.... I have lost probably 5-6 good spots over the years due to private ownership and penny pinching parking laws.... Just bums me out because I am one of the good guys who respects the land.... Oh well, way of the future I guess

I can honestly say, from hunting/fishing experiences, that the last 15 years has really went to the crapper in terms of peoples attitudes.  Its amazing to me friendships and families are broken because of a stupid deer or fish.  Is it really worth it?  To me its not, but to some people i guess it is!

Amen to that... I use to go with my father 20 years ago to anywhere you wanted basically, we would go turtle and snake hunting or fishing... Never got bothered...... Now you cannot do anything

I know this sounds silly but I swear this all started once that lady burned herself on Mcdonalds coffee for being to hot... Ever since that clumsy pig did that everyone wants to sue everyone for nothing, everyone is so concerned about lilaibilty you cannot access anything.... " Your not crossing my property, what if you get hurt and sue me"

It truly is a shame the biggest thing for me at Sherwood is this is where I take my kids for some real pan fish action and mainly catch and release, with the occasional day of taking some home. It's more of a learning experience for them :'(

I'd turn the association people in for angler harassment.  Somenone should call the Deaner next time that president comes out there.  Just be sure you are legal.
