It's become a tradition for me... First ice on Woodcreek. Yeah, the place is a toilet and gets pounded, but for the first time on the ice every year, I could give a crap about catching. It's all about walking on water again.

Turns out, we had a bonus today... We actually caught fish! :biggrin:

I left Newington at 5 and it was 20 degrees, an hour later we were at the ramp and it was 12. I spudded my way out to test the ice and found it to be uniform and solid everywhere I checked. I measured 3 1/2" of ice. There was 1 1/4" of black ice and close to 2 1/2" of recently frozen slush

We started getting flags before we were done setting up. It was nirvana being back out there and having flags flying. They were all crappie, nothing big but I was pumped.

The flags continued as the sun came up but the crappie shut off and the bass began to eat.

The wind was whipping pretty good and I needed to get to the shop so we were off the ice about 9:30. We ended up with 1/2 dozen fish on the ice. As thick as the ice was and as cold as it's going to be, I'm sure there are more places that will be safe over the weekend. Looks like it's finally here!!!!!!!

Looks like you guys had a great time taking advantage of first ice! I can only dream for now, but in a couple of weeks it will become reality!!

i'm hoping to get out on tuesday less traffic, goin to the northwest, anybody got time maybe we could meet up i should have 2 friends with me. here we go!!!!!!!!

First, a big thumbs up to Connecticut Outfitters.

In this age of Big Box stores and online shopping, it's tough to get customer service from people who care. How many shops do you think would text message you at the crack of dawn and tell you where first ice of the season is? Nobody but Gary, the owner of CT Outfitters!!!

I received the following text at 7:01AM: "today first ice wood crk b&*%$es!"

LOL! Obviously I had to clean up that last word for this site.

Pottymouth!!! I laughed my arse off and was green with envy at the same time. I replied with a hearty and hale "You suck!!!" and went back to getting ready for work.

6 fish outta Wood Creek? That place is hot!

Congrats on first ice and a decent day on that toilet. Only thing missing from the pics is Spanker and Saxi.

Still had open water at Mt. Tom yesterday. With temps in the 40's Mon. & Tues. I'll be canoeing open water for salmon.
