I am not aware of a fire access on Gull. Are you maybe thinking of Baseline Road? If so the walk is shorter from there. It is about a 200 yd walk from parking to the lake but shorter to fishing once you are on.

From the sounds of it you should find a parking spot and take it.

Sorry...I will miss it this year...going up to Gogebic. Walleye season is now open until March 15. (used to close the end of February).

Sorry, got a tad frustrated, I know how helpful everyone is on here. The fire access is on the NE side, I think it is Baseline. I'm REALLY hoping to make it out to meet all of you regulars for the first time in person.... if I can get rid of this DARN cold!!!!

I am coming and bringing a friend and a quad.....would like to meet some of you guy's. Black Pants, Blue jacket, green hood. I live 5 miles from the ramp.

I am a little iffy on the quad....meaning weeknd before last on the north end there where spots you could not even walk on all over the place from the thaw let alone have a quad on it. Was out Sunday and the ice seemed good on the north end. I was fishing in 70fow on about 5 to 6 inches of ice But I got to believe there are spots with 3" or less on this end of the lake. Fishing stinked though, marked tons of fish but I could hardly get them to bite......that has happend to me a couple times this year. But this is my first year smeltin also. I did see two sleds fishing the hogbacks and a motorcycle on the ice playing....no quads. Also if you guy's are planning on using the fire access....baseline road last weekend you had too walk out on a 2 x 6 to get on the ice there....I did it. There still was 5 ft of open water to the edge of the ice and had too walk on the 2 x 6 or wade in a foot of water to the edge of the ice Sunday evening when I fished from there. The boat ramp is the place to take off with the quads. You can proably get on at baseline but you will break the ice up with the quads....better to just walk on here. Be safe I heard rain Thursday not sure how much but suppose to get cold again Friday. But there is not a ton of ice on the north end of this lake in spots. and surely not enough to gang 50 guys toghter on and several quads.

Thanks for the tip. Not what I wanted to hear but the truth sometimes hurts. If its sketchy looks like we take over the Home Depot parking lot and do frozen turkey bowling.

Listen....I will have pics for ya FRI. even if I have to take them in the dark! Will auger hole and hold up measuring tape. All I have seen is 6" of good black ice.....good enough for me. Ya I don't have a quad....but I will still fish. Don't cry wolf till it is time.....and no need worrying till it is time.

It is safe to fish by foot and probably ok with a quad if your a little crazy.....believe it or not the night I went out after the last thaw 2 weekends ago there was spots you would of fell through walkin out from baseline road. It started to snow hard and I left shortly after feering I would fall through becuase the thin spots would be hidden by the snow. And believe it or not a nut on a quad buzzed by my about 9:00pm. I watched him until he stopped thinking i was going to see the light disappear. He stopped by three shanties that were stopped and fishing togther.T he ice at the ramp is fine. This is based upon my 30 years of being a avid ice angler though I am not a rookie when it comes to ice conditions. Hope to see you walkin out with the quads being iffy at Gull!

Baseline is always shady to go out on. I do not base my ice reports on that launch. I will base my reports on facts and not stories...thus the pics on FRI. You guys can do what you want with the pics. I will never tell anyone how to fish or what gear to bring. Pics will prob. be posted later on FRI. night. I will be fishing Gull most of the day..for perch.
