Keyhole Derby
« on: Feb 19, 2009, 10:27 AM »
My buddy Raven caught this nice eye the day before the derby. His biggest one yet.  She's going on the wall.

Here are his comments on the fish

"I had some luck at Keyhole last weekend and landed this 9# 3oz, 30" Walleye.
When I pulled it out of the hole it had 3 of my jigs in its mouth. It took one tip-up and two lines in its mouth.

I would have won the prize for biggest Walleye but, *I GOT DISQUALIFIED.*
They asked me when I caught it and I told them at 2am Saturday morning, the judge said "your disqualified because the tournament started at 7am".

I should have read the rules better. I'm still putting it on the wall as not the fish that got away but, *THE TOURNAMENT THAT GOT AWAY........."

It's a Ice Castle from Walkers VP in Shoshoni.  It's pretty heavy for a quad (2,000 pounds).

I was in Lander shooting bunnies with the Father-in-law during this trip. That walleye was the only one they caught (Raven and Steve-O).  No Crappies or Pike. Slow trip I guess.

Mighty nice fish. Too bad he was DQ'd at least he was honest about it. I went to walkers during the Boysen tournament and I really like the variety of stuff that he has. Walkers is the only shop that I know of that has chubby darters in Wyoming. Thanks for sharing mooter.

Hey everyone! First post, but been hanging around for a few months checking fishing reports and seeing some nice fish being caught.  I fished the derby as well, caught 2 pike in two days, one being 34" winner by my old man, but fishing was super slow, no crappie, no bites...fished north side by Eggie Bay. However some people were getting into the walleye, all were mid 20" several pound dandies.  Only heard of a handful of crappies being caught and measured. Fished Keyhole all winter, all over, fish seem very disinterested and nonaggressive.  Definately not HOT like is has been the last couple of years where 30-40+ days were fairly common.  Keep up the good reporting...
