setting up a portable in the wind
« on: Feb 18, 2004, 02:50 PM »
To ease set up in the wind let the wind work for you. First decide which way the wind is blowing. Face one of the doors into the wind, close the down wind door and open the up wind door, next have your partner hold the roof up and let it fill with air while you get inside and raise the support poles. that will make it a lot easier than fighting the wind.

Good way for it t fill up like a parachute and take off on you too. I've had it happen before, took me a 1/2 hour to track it down. :)

Didn't mean to try this in 50 MPH. wind. Use good judgement.

I've had some pretty exciting rides in my shappell, it helps to screw a couple of anchors into the ice first. Last season I almost ended up in the open water at Lake Erie thanks to a sudden gust. But you are correct, if you use the wind it does make it easier. I just partially zip the door shut.

Works great! Also, do not close the wind catching door all the way.Allow some of the wind to past through, it keeps you from going for a ride
