Fishin for pike catching perch
« on: Jan 26, 2009, 07:48 PM »
I was fishing for pike on 1-25-09 since the day before was a slow day of perch fishing. I was fishing in 10' of water, using 3" and 4" shiners, fishing them 3' off the bottom. I started catching perch. The shiners completely filled there mouths. I guess that you just never know. I still had some fat heads in my mini bucket so I switched bait and caught 25 perch. No pike. http://s628.photobucket.com/albums/uu9/johnbo_photo/?action=view&current=IMG_0023.jpghttp://s628.photobucket.com/albums/uu9/johnbo_photo/?action=view&current=IMG_0023.jpgv

Maybe didn't get the pike that you were looking for, but I'd take a day of that many Yellers any day. Glad that you got into them.

I bought large shiners at Nicklows. Does any one have any larger ones? The lake was Deep Creek.

Man that's a complex lake.  I found all my fish in the deep 40+.  Tried shallow with the tips and zeroed.  Keep thinking I should try one of the traditional shallower areas like McHenry but I don't want to give up on walleye.
