I WONDER WHY PEOPLE WOULD DRIVE A GOOD TRUCK ON THE ICE AT ALL WHEN YOUR INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER ANY OF IT GOING THROUGH.

RAYMAN54,,,,,,,,,,,,

most insurance companies will cover the cost of the vehicle or reparis, but not the cost of recovering it from the ice.

So how do they actually go about towing someone out from that mess?  Does the tow truck get as close as is safe them just start pulling them out one by one?  Just curious.
they were able to pull the trucks from shore the ford was about 200' away however a tow truck did drive out on the ice just yards from the ford to help keep it from rolling when they pulled on it  was pretty neat to see that truck sink in water just over the top of the hood

IF THE VEHICLE IS IN PRETTY GOOD I HAVE SEEN COST GOING OVER $10,000 PER DAY JUST TO GET IT OUT NOT INCLUDING REPAIRS TO THE UNIT.  HERE IN MICHIGAN I BELIVE THE DNR FINES YA' AS WELL DAILY FOR POLUTING THE WATER.  YOU CAN GET A CHEAP USED ATV OR SLED TO GET OUT A LOT SAFER.
I WILL KEEP USING MY ATV.
ANY INSURANCE COMPANY THAT WOULD COVER THE REPAIRS FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS JUST AS FOOLISH AS THE PERSON DRIVING AN EXPENSIVE TRUCK OR CAR ONTO THE ICE, YA' JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT IS UNDER EVERY BIT OF ICE YOUR DRIVING OVER.

I have driven all over the ice I have parked in virtual parking lots on the ice and never had any issues whatsover. If you drill a hole a few feet from many tons of weight bad things are gonna happen too bad it ruined your day  happy you got your truck out alright . next time park alone :-\

holy sheesh!
see, even if there is 25 inches of ice on a lake id still NEEEEEEVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE ERRRRRRRRR drive out on a lake. ever.
i dont care if its frozen from the top of the ice to the bottom of the lake id never do it.
you guys must have HUGE nads to drive out. plus it only looks like its about 6 inches thick. not even. maybe 3?
how deep was the water there like 5ft?
:) safe ice to all.

There was about 10" to a foot there.  I was out in the same place today I drove my 05 Silverado 1500 with an extended cab.  There was 14" of ice where I was fishing and I had no problems.  The ice barely made any noise.  The area of water I was fishing was about 120 feet deep.  There really isnt any good way for that to turn out if I went in the drink but I feel that the ice is strong enough and thick enough.  There was another truck, a ford F-150 that got on  at Pilot Knob and drove down the lake out of sight.  That guy was driving pretty fast too.  Call me an idiot but my truck makes a great shanty........and I've got tunes in there, no dragging your stuff out, adjustable heat and nice cozy seats.  Usually I wait for 15-18" of ice but I have seen several trucks out on the lake  and they have had no problems.  For anyone that reads this, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I'M SAYING THAT THE ICE IS SAFE FOR A FULL SIZE PICKUP.  I'M SAYING THAT I DID IT AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES.  YOU RUN THE RISK DRIVING OUT.  IF ANYONE WANTS TO GIVE IT A GO, GO FOR IT BUT THATS ALL YOU.  I WONT SAY THE ICE IS SAFE FOR TRUCKS, BECAUSE THERE IS NO TRULY SAFE ICE.

For those that fish lake george NY, PLEASE DONT LET THE STATE LOWER THE LAKE TROUT SIZE IN LAKE GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!

as long as every is alright i'm gonna do this :D      thats how stupidity gets rewarded.   just asking for trouble to park trucks that close to each other, as well as risking othe peoples lifes who are out on the ice around you.  i hope a lesson was learned and good luck with the recovery and dealing with your insurance company
