It doesnt bother me when he asks for my SSN. He gave it to me and it doesnt cost me anything. I dont like it that hes always asking for money and then spending it to rebuild Iraq and then I gotta pay $1.55 for gas. I dont mind the gas prices but tell the diaper heads to rebuild themselves. Federal law says you dont have to give your SSN for anything except tax purposes. If the state tries to make you that is a violation of federal law.

You don't have to give your ss# for a fishing license in NY. I got mine with my drivers license and no one asked me for my ss# at the dec desk at the state fair.maybe for your hunting license, I don't know ,that does involve guns. :-\

does your canoe have a moter on it? Here in NH we only have to register our bouts if they have a moter on it.

That's right, no SSN for a license !!!! Many years ago DEC started using SSN for licenses and a attorney in Orange Co. challenged that requirment and it was stopped . It is the same attorney that also challenged the requirment that you must show proof of motor vehicle inspection to re-new your registration, that was tossed also. So relax, buy your new license and pray for hardwater !!!!!   Retired ECO

I just looked in the book of rules crappieloo, and if you did not have a motor gas or electric on the canoe, you should have been able to launch without any trouble. Next time i see the law i will ask em personnally.

As for the soc.#, I do not think it is mandatory. Unfortunately i gave it when i bought my hunting license this year. Afterward i realized i just back doored registered myself as a gun owner.

Cold as ice and and olds-pa, i was told this with my canoe loaded on top of my truck cap roof rack, also launch rules required all water craft to be regestered with or WITHOUT MOTERS.
LOST my small power boat to taxes in '91 and saw the big brother crap coming, saved my money and in '98 bought a  kevler canoe.
Didn't have the nerve to put a moter on it because of all the NYS. crap.
If i put a trolling moter on it next year i will need a registration $$, and a operators licence ??? ??? ???,  to motor(troll) at 2mph!

That's ok crappieloo. Sometimes it helps to blow a little steam. Just don't do it later on and melt the ice............. ;)
As for the soc.#, here is a site that pretty much covers it. Wish i had looked at it sooner. www.nonumber.com

Hey I have got to go visit Mr. S.  Wow $1.55 a gal, that is dirt cheap.  Here in NY it is still upwards of $1.70 and higher.  Went up to the ADK's Bear hunting this weekend and paid almost $1.80.

Lowest in this area for gas is $1.66 foe 87. Unfortunately, the "66 olds only eats 93 octane.  :(....$1.90 for that. Gonna burn as much as i can afford. Figure when it's all gone the arabs can farm their desert.

Must be nice to have cheap gas prices. Up here in northern B.C. I pay  85.9 cents a litre for the low octane. Which computes out to $3.44 a gallon. But then again thats Canadian $$$ so you would pay approx 70% of that which is approx $2.51. Enjoy it while you can afford it.
Wouldn't change it for the world though. I start on the ice in  November and end in April. Hunt moose, deer, grizz & black bear, elk in my back yard. Best river fishing in the world only 3 hrs away. Naaa keep your cheap gas prices. :)

Anyways sounds to me like you live in spotsman paradise.  I am your humble servent......(just looking to get a Grizzly Bear hunt invite ;))  I got a nice little Black Bear in  NY last weekend #5 for me.

Sorry dogfish, my grizzly hunts are all by limited entry. Got lucky 3 years ago. Usually 65:1 odds for getting a draw but nice to see them when hunting. One mountain range I hunt had 27 different grizzlies  last fall before den up time. No blacks on them hills except dead ones the grizz were feeding on. Used to be open season on grizz up till 7 or 8 years ago now they are everywhere. Quite a few had to be shot that were wondering into towns around here killing livestock. Congrats on your black. Noticed the last few years the blacks are getting bigger. I think because not alot of BCers hunt them. Mine last year measured 6ft8inches (nose to tail). Good luck in your deer hunt. ;)

the way I read the law in PA. you don't need an un powered boat registered unless you plan on using it in fish and boat commission access areas or certain lakes. dumb rule if you ask me. oh well each state has their own way of governing I guess.

CRAPPIELOO & HIMO1123,
I will try and clear up the SS# required for a PA license. You do not have to give the license agent your number if you do not want to. They ask for it but do not require it!

Lou,
Was the ramp that you was at, was the one I told you about? If so, it is owned by Athens Township and has nothing to do with the county or state. It definatly is not a Game Commission facility. I put in there today and yes the mud is bad, our local fire company usually clears it off, but with the water going up and down so much it has been a problem with them keeping it clean.  Our largest today was a 19-1/4" smallie, "the largest I have gotten out of the river." Sure wish you would have called.
Pete

When i saw where the launch was i giggled cause i must of drove right near it 8 times over the years, turned left instead toward k-mart instead of right.
After checking it out i went to find the other launch on the susky. It took me about a hour and a half to find it then i found out i couldnt launch there.
So i went back to athens. Holy smokes nice fish you got out of there :o I should have gone farther upstream, to the far bridge. Oh well live and learn.

I believe that I read that it has been a requirement for a while nationwide but it is just now being implemented in many areas.

I snipped the following from the Minnesota DNR website (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/index.html):

Notice
Social Security Number collection information (Requirement as of August 1, 2003, for anyone buying hunting or fishing licenses. Does not apply to commercial licenses.)

Federal law requires the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to collect your Social Security Number (SSN) when you apply for a game and fish license for child support enforcement purposes. If you apply for a game and fish license and you do not have an SSN, you must give us a certification that you do not have an SSN. If you do not give us your SSN or a certification, we cannot issue you a game and fish license. The federal law is Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, U.S.C., Title 42, section 666(a)(13).

The DNR is required to provide your SSN or certification to the Minnesota Department of Human Services for child support enforcement purposes.

They can always sross check their various databases (DMV...) to add your SSN.

There are a lot of things that have your SSN on them that you never think twice about. If you are renewing your drivers lisence would you think twice about writing it down?

What is to stop them from looking at your name, DOB and address and cross checking with your various entries into their fish and game lisence databases?
