How in the WORLD do you Start Finding Perch
« on: Jan 15, 2009, 04:38 PM »
I have One Heck of a Headache... ??? ??? ??? I've Searched, and Searched, I FOUND some, but no Real Numbers of Perch..

I KNOW they are in this Lake..No Topo map available..I Thought for sure, I've seen one..but the D.N.R. says No..

How in the world do you start Searching for Perch..Depths of 20,30,40,50,60 Feet?

Please let me know, so my Headache will go away... :'(

Also...will Glow Jigs work better, and what Baits should I use.

Thanks again..

A Fellow Fisherman..

We talking the lake you took me to?  Try the big willow to the right of the landing.  I got quite a few of them this summer.  Its a bit of a hike..but hte water is pretty deep.  Also, whenI was out graphing it, the contour of the hills....pretty much follows down into the water.  I'd fin a point and then fish off the sides of it?

Good to see you again BTW>

for a new lake i look for a weedy flat  (large) that they might spawn in when spring comes. then work out to the 1st 20 ft flat..no luck..30 foot flat then 40 . flats close to spawning area.

drill 2-300 holes a day and you'll find them. then go back the next day to whack again...and they are GONE!!
start process all over! ;D

Try where hard bottom meets soft, as the season goes on they seem to move further out into the silt, away from the edge. A 1/8oz. forage minnow in a natural color, or a frostee chartruse glow w/ a mealworm usally works.  Tight lines

Your flasher will give you diffrent colors & band widths. Usally red is very hard, especially if the band is thick, a thin stripe would be not as hard, eventually the colors will change . Your manual with your flasher will explain it, I don`t know what you fish with. I use a x-67c which has 5 colors ,black would be weak signal (soft) up to red , strong signal (hard) add to that the thickness.

Don't look in the Picture, and Quote..." Love fishing w/ the Vexilar"

I fish w/ a Marcum VX-1 now.

So.......... A Bright Band would be Hard Bottom..
I'l remember that...

And...
If there are hills nearby, I should look at a area that has Flat Ground.

It's 8:22 pm...Goin to bed now..Have to drive School Bus in the Morning.

i couldn't perch fish without a power auger and a vex. well i could but then i would only catch one now and then.
some areas produce year after year and that would be great ...just doesn't happen here
