RL,
Sad to say but prices are not what they used to be. We knew this going in though. We averaged about $11.00 a coon but these were sold in the grease. Rats went for $3.00 and Mink averaged $8.00. There was a lot of talk about how this year would be the start of another fur boom after last years prices on coon went through the roof at that last few auctions. Guys were getting prices around what you were stating and were very, very pleased. All summer and fall trap dealers were trying to keep up with the demand on certain traps as people were coming out of the woodwork to "get rich quick" if you will. Little did they know that the world economy would crash a month before season which made country buyers speculate at best of what China, Russia, and a few other major hitters in the fur world would be buying and at what prices. The first few auctions haven't gone as well as some would have liked with low clearances of goods which is what we thought would happen. Still a few more auctions to come in the next few months though, so we are crossing our fingers that most all of the coon sell so the shelves are clear for next season.
Later,
Smitty
