In the bay by Buckboard there was 3-4 inches of solid clear ice.  But just out past the bay it was open water all the way down the lake. Some of the bays down that way had almost an inch but that wind yesterday made terrible conditions for building up the ice thickness.

Have any of you guys fishing the gorge been able to pull up any ling lately.  I am relatively new to the area and don't really know any hot spots to target them.  I used to live in ALaska and catch a few  and love the taste of boiled ling(burbot) dipped in some butter.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Fishing is not about life or death, it is much more important than that! And all I have to say is FISH ON baby.

Ling can be caught at Fire hole boat ramp. It is slow sometimes. Most all fishing spots have ling. Trick is to catch them...lots of them!

Hey guys, fished up the Blacks Fork over the weekend.  5-6 inches of good ice but not sure I would have ventured all the way across the lake quite yet.  Our group caught about 5 nice bows from 7:00 am until about 11:30 when the wind came up like a mad man.  No Ling but marked a few fish coming up off the bottom that acted like ling caught in the past.  Next time out I will remember my digital camera and be able to supply photos.  Tight lines ;D

Big Sandy Reservoir outside of Farson is filthy with them...anywhere with 200 yards of the dam...good luck.

Baiter, keep watching this thread.  As the ice gets better you will have a good idea where to go for the ling on the gorge.  I would say the southern end of the lake might not be as good as the upper end.  Better numbers up here.  Our group has had success near the confluence of the Blacksfork in about 20-30 feet of water off a rocky point or cliff line.  I know guys do good down around Buckboard area as well and up around Firehole.  Hit them at night with glow jigs and we have had success during the day with white jig/twister tails.  Good luck!

I fished confluence today out on the main part of the lake.  There was about 5 to 6 inches of good clear ice.  Only fished for about 2 hours and caught 3 lakers in the 20 inch range.  Looks like the lake is frozen down to about half way between confluence and current creek.

Fleas novidad RS ICEMAN!
Currant Creek is spelled with an A and is named after the berries that grow there. I frequent the ranch a number of times a week year round. They will be stocking bait for Walker Baits in the future....and they sell alcohol at times. They tend to be seasonally closed presently.  I will check in with a report on the status soon as Currant Creek freezes over, it's a good spot to fish when it's iced, hopefully sooner than later although we are only about 2 inches of ice behind last year.
It is 4:30 AM and I am getting ready for a great Christmas trend started last year, to go ice fishing and stack Christmas trout like cordwood!
Need to get the fishing done so I can eat ham and turkey this afternoon.
Pictures of new ice sled box freshly painted to follow.

New sled with new fish (no they did not come from last seasons trips).
High winds made fishing severe this morning. Secret: No on on the gorge at firehole, swim beach, or sage creek this morning...had the whole place to myself...me and the wind that is!
Best Wishes,

Currant Creek will have fishable ice by next weekend or sooner. There were open spots but  up to an inch over most of the bay.
Not nearly enough to walk on YET.

I fished confluence on friday and saturday.  On friday the weather was bad, windy and cold but fishing was good. My buddy Dwight pulled a 36" 16lbs laker through the ice.  He also lost a fish that i estimated to be about 20lbs or better right at the hole.  Saturday the fishing seemed to slow down a bit only caught 5 or 6 dinks.  I will post pics.  I could see ice to or past currant creek but didn't go to check thickness.

That's a really nice fish!
Ice last evening was below Currant Creek but not to Breeze Hill yet. Probably a week or so before thick enough to get on Currant Creek Bay if the warmer temps come as forecast. I will welcome some mildly warmer weather after the past couple days of terrifying wind chills.  Anybody fished yesterday is a true ice fisherman ...or a fool.
