Another VX-1 question
« on: Dec 17, 2008, 06:52 PM »
I just picked up an VX-1 flasher today. I didn't see anything in the paperwork on how long to charge the battery initially does anyone know how long? Thanks

Plug charger in, lights up green.  Connect to battery, charger changes to red.  When charger is green again, battery is fully charged.

Ooops... you said Marcum, not Vexilar.   ;D

you mean a VX-1?

just chrage it for 8 hours.  in that time period, you will not overcharge (the charger is not terribly fast which is good in this case) and you will be sure to reach full charge in that time.

then....i use mine for about 3-4 days of fishing, then recharge.  depending on how long i fish i could probably get 1 or 2 more outings on the charge, but i would hate for it to die on the water.

do it overnight, then go use it!

Easy... Fish 8 hours charge 4 -5 hours you have a 500 milliamp charger. Or you could order a DCS 100 from Fish 307 and have piece of mind, The DCS 100 comes standard with the LX-3 and LX-5 and it's a full 1 amp charger, then it floats and then goes into maintence mode. It can charge a dead 7 amp battery in 5.5 hours or a 9 amp in 7 hours.

oh you said you paid twice as much for a inferior product.....
the old VX-1 were under $200 and work just as well as the fl-8 but includes bottom zoom. The only thing i wish it had was a little better interference rejection for when i do fish in groups which isnt that often..i dont need the extra wattage.

Nope, I never said that.  It appears that you "assumed" that.

It's not a FL8, its a FL20.  I bought it used off of e-bay, head unit and transducers and battery monitor.  Added a new battery/charger and Ultrapack.  Under $300 and I have a spare transducer and couple of battery monitors.

Inferior?  You are entitled to your opinion.

I wouldn't say that the vex is inferior.  I would say that a vex may be equal to but not greater than a marcum.  "may" being the key word.  Gander has VX-1 for $200.
Bullet with a name on it.

I'm seeing all kinds of posts about the VX1 for $200 or less.  If I didn't already own two flashers (have a FL8 SE Genz that I stole for $100 also) I would be snatching up one of the Marcums.  Either brand, I don't think you can go wrong for $200.

yes a fl-20 compared to a vx-1 is a different story, but also over 2 times as much new.....I was refering to the fl-8....the vx-1 is relatively comparative to the fl-18 as it has bottom zoom w/o the interference rejection.  If you are going to pay for a fl-8, you are paying for an inferior product....I've had the fl-8 in use...you got a great find on the fl-20 for that price....but if you are talking new, we arent in the same category. cant compare a fl-20 to a vx-1, nor even a fl-8. It like saying a mercedes is equal to a  daewoo but not mentioning that its a mercedes......your right it is a car, but were talking 2 different leagues.
