What color spikes/maggots do you perfer ?
« on: Dec 07, 2008, 02:58 PM »
It seems more and more colored natural baits are available every year. What color spikes/maggots do you perfer?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an  well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, A fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming \"WOO HOO, what a ride!

Usually use white.
Did use "Crasy Dust" by Little Atom last year.
Comes in 6 colors and scented with C-9 their anise scent.
Non-toxic and made for Waxies, Mousies, and Spikes to consume and color and scent themselves.
Worked Great!

Use white and red.  Only wish the red would stay alive as long as the white.  They seem to die off quite a bit faster than the white.

They seem to hit white and red the best.

White/Red, the only problem is the colored die off so fast. I wont buy a large volume of the colored ones.

I can't tell the difference, they all taste the same.  Hey, do the red ones "disappear" in the water or do they resemble blood??  ??? ;D

They say below a certain depth... (I wanna say about 15-20 feet of water) the color red disapears due to light refraction. Above that line... where ever it is. It can be seen clear as day.

I've noticed that also. I spend a lot of time sorting my spikes, changing the wood shavings and picking out the dead ones to keep them fresh. The colored ones die faster than the whites. I'm thinking of trying some of than crazy dust and coloring a few at a time. I ordered 3k whites one for the season.

red and white. I tried a bag of mixed colors and red and white seemed to catch the most fish. could be just luck, but it's been red and white for me since then

I've always done the best using RED.  I always have a mixture though, you never know what they may want.

Fisherman's Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish
          Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
       I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
           And peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be Judged
              BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
