The lake is about 2/3 froze over last night but it got down to 8 or 9 last night it should be pretty well locked up now. won't be fishing on it it for a few days till she gets safe. It seems to be a slow one to freeze up.

Went all the way to Buckskin yesterday....still had open water.  Sucked...never even saw any pheasants on the way home.

Just happened to stumble across this forum while looking for ice reports.  Been ice fishing for last 3 years, mainly at local lakes.  Willow Creek is one of my favorites in the Spring, but haven't had much luck on anything but gills in the winter.  Can't decide if I should stay local next weekend or head to Okoboji.

That's hysterical...I'm going to Big creek maybe...LOL.   Got a report for me?  My brother is going to check it tomorrow.  I find it almost freaky if all lakes from the southern borders of both states don't at least have walkable ice.  48 hours of 0 and BELOW??  Come on...only question I have is ATV thick or walkable...

Checked it Saturday morning before heading on to thicker ice.  Just barely under 3 inches in several different locations.  Road heading to the west end of the lake is still closed.  With these temps we should be adding at least an inch or two a day.

Hey BojiHawk Ill be sure to wave! LOL JK. I wish I could help ya with the ice or a report for that mater. Ive been tied down at work and found out today Ill be working some this weekend to.(so much for going back to Norfolk) I was out 2 weekends ago when the ice was still sketchy on farm ponds by Newton with c.r. rick. The ice would have to be pushing ATV thick by now its been colder than $#*#. Rock Creek had great ice about 6 on that weekend with the dam open and parts of the chanel. Des Moines ice set on a little later. Good luck to you and your bro!

After reading that there have been 6 cars through the ice and one death at Big Creek...I'm beginning to wonder.  One kid was out "celebrating" after he found out his mom had won a share of the lottery when he went through.  With those kind of genes....I'm sure that $$ will be gone by 2010.  We were out there last year and some morons were doing high speed runs down the middle of that lake around 6 PM.  The funny part is, why doesn't the Iowa DNR just post the ramps after the first car went through??  I don't get it...Americans have consistently proven that we need to be rescued from ourselves...I'm not sure why we sit on our hands in dealing with mouth breathers like this.

update - All comments stand on this event....although it happened 20 years ago...I was not given a date, only the test of the article from the NY Times from a city slicker genius.
