Humminbird Flashers
« on: Nov 27, 2008, 10:29 PM »
I was checkin out the new Humminbird flashers today at basspro and noticed they have an extra cord hanging from the transducer. There is one cord that connects to the actual unit, and a second cord that is clipped to the transducer and dangles without a second connection. Does anybody know what the second cord is for ???

I believe it's thier way of connecting the transducer to the cable without infringing on Vexilar's patents. Thats what I have read on here on some other threads anyhow.

Ya, but one of the cords is completly useless?  Marcum useses only one cord like vexilar.  you think the second cord is used to yank the ducer outta the water when fighting a fish?

I don't know. Having the second cord just to yank it out doesn't make much sence to me.  :-\ ??? :-\ That is actually one of the things that turned me off to the Humminbirds. I am buying a flasher for the 1st time this winter, it was going to be a Humminbird, but now I think it's going to be a Vexilar FL-12 Ultra Pack.

Yes, but marcum does not have the float on their transducers. I believe the 2nd cord is there for patent purposes only. Something I thought was sort of weird on the birds is how thick the lines are on the display. I would wait until at least next season to purchase a new hummingbird.

I have the Ice-55 and that second cord is still in the box and is not needed.

same with me .. in the box ...
i look at it this way .. the way that the 2nd line was set up .. it was so stupid it had to be taken off .. it was a deliberate design flaw .. just to get by the patent.
