Charging Your Batteries!
« on: Nov 26, 2008, 07:58 PM »
This is just a tip for you guys. I made a ciggarette lighter attachment for my depth finder battery. as soon as I return to the truck I plug it in. I have never left the truck to go out on the ice without a fully charged battery. You acttually do your battery good keeping it hooked to your vehicles system. The charging system on your vehicle will keep your battery optimized for whenever you need it.  I have gone over a month in the past without disconnecting it from the truck and the battery is now 5years old and works perfectly.

A quick tip is you can get color coded alligator clips at radio shack and if you don't know how to find possitive and negative any mechanic shop should be able to help you with this without a charge.

I will add to this...  This is also good for longer trips...  Do the same as above, but use the cig lighter charger to a spare battery in the truck.  Switch out batteries as needed on longer trips. I am working on doing the same as above so I will always have a charged battery at the ready.

Can you provide a parts list of what we would need to make the adapter and maybe a few how to instructions.  When it comes to electrical things I'm usually lost.  :embarassed: ???  Thanks!
