Berkley Gulp question
« on: Sep 24, 2008, 05:52 PM »
Anybody know if the liquid that the Berkley Gulp comes in freezes?
A few people I know have fished extensively and exclusively with Gulp and swear by it.
I am thinking of getting some of the 3" minnow type for a "no live bait" lake I ice fish in.
I'd hate to have to chisel my bait out of that little bucket :D
Thanks for any info,
Glen

I have had some issues with my bagged gulp freezing, so I leave the bag in an inside pocket of my ice armour.  I am not sure of the container type, but I will know soon enough, as I am going to try it this year.

Which Gulp bait do you guys use?  I bought Gulp maggots the other day and what I meant to get was the gulp waxies (I was daydreaming and didn't look at the label good enough).  Has anyone used the maggots before and any luck?

I want to buy some of the Gulp minnows for use on some lakes that don't allow live minnows and same question, do they work good? and do you use different jigs/lures with them?

Berkley has produced a new product, just out.
It's "Spikes" -> Smaller than their Maggots.
Comes in 4 colors and a Glow.
Got a Red an 2 Glows.

Actually I'm going to go out tonight and try my luck on a couple of the smaller local lakes near me...I heard they have around 5-6" of ice.  Which is why I was asking about the Gulp baits I wanted to try them out tonight...I'll have to report back.

4" Crappie through the ice this time of year is a nice start! I'm checking the ice closely the next few days, we'll see.

I have been trying the Gulp Waxies. I have been only one at a time on a #14-12 hooks, any more than that looks like it would impede hook ups???

I have used the Berkley Gulp maggots to tip my jigs and spoons for pike.
They seem to like them in the open water, so they should also work through the ice.

I also have the 3" Gulp Alive minnows & Gulp Alive waxies and I too wondered about them freezing in the liquid.
I will put them to the test this season and see. ;)
