Tigers
« on: Nov 18, 2008, 11:13 AM »
anyone got any pointers for the tiger muskys in chauncey? I think I hooked into one last season bacause I threw a big dead sucker out deep just for craps and giggles, i saw it run for a while but when I went to set the hook it was gone. I've heard that you HAVE to go deeper for them, but I've also heard that you catch them the same way as pike. I've also heard that you can get them on mackerel chunks. I've never landed one and have been trying for years. I'm great with the pike though! any pointere would be greatly appreciated.
are there any locations better than chauncey for tigers?

tigers/pike are far and few between at chauncy. plan on spending some time. not a place that one usually goes to and catches tiger very often. i fished it a lot years ago and never had a real 'good' day

i fished it yesterday with my kayak.with no  luck.i was thinking that the falling water temp may make them hungry . that pond is always slow . I think from what i read they act more like muskie than northerns .  they could be just an urban legend  as i have never seen one but have talk to a few  who say the lost one at the hole.

I am no Pike or Musky Killer but i did catch&release one at Chauncey 3yrs ago, 24 inches on a large shiner. Quite a suprise for me and a great memory...Keep in mind they are a little more scarce than Pike. i have read that it is rare for them to breed as well. so what is in there might be it.

Chauncey may be the slowest ice fishing you can encounter.  I guess we all hope to be there the day the big one comes along. One day a friend was there and watched a guy pull in a big tiger.  The guy was going to keep it but Mark talked him into weighing it and he took this pic for the guy.  The guys released it.  I wish I was there to see it pulled out through the hole.  The blood in the pic is not from the fish but the guys hand.  Enjoy.

Check out the Mass Wildlife website. They have a (limited) listing of stocked ponds for trout, salmon and pike/muskies/tigers.
It'll give you a chance to plan a couple of road trips this winter.

Not entirely true. For a long time it was thought that the parrot fish couldn't breed because it was a hybrid between two types of cichlids. However, in the last few years, they've been breeding regularly.

Like many others have said, Chauncey is a very slow place, especially for Northerns and Tigers. I would personally say that a drive else where would be a lot better of a choice.

I think the best shot this year is sharon lake (masapoag) for a tiger they were stocked 4 yrs ago and should be legal size and bigger . If I made anybody angry for posting this sorry pm me and I will take it off .I'm going to try to be there every sunday with the kids set a lot of traps and hopefully get lucky the odds of catching one must be similar to hitting the lottery .
