Although I don't use em, since I don't fish pike in the winter, I am still familiar with them. The length between hooks depends on the length of your bait. Obviously, you couldn't seperate the hooks by 8 inches if you were using 4 inch minnows, but it wouldn't be very effective to seperate them by 4 inches if you were using 12 inch baits. I've seen some that use an adjustable  hook, so they can be adapted to various size bait. Sorry, but I don't recall how they attached the sliding hook, I'll see if I can find that though. Hope that helps a little.

Run your leader trough the eye of the top hook and
then put some shrink tubing over it.  This way you can
adjust position of the hook and it will not be loose.

I make mine with 30 pound fireline and treble hooks.  I use a clinch knot to tie the first treble on and then leave a 5-7 inch length to tie the second treble hook on.  Here in Northern Illinois there are not to many monster pike so my rig works fine.  If you are fortunate enough to live near a lake with monster fish my rig probably won't hold up.

If the mood strikes ya, check out the thread entitled "PSPikeW/DipLip" on the ontariofishing.net Message Board.

You may have to flip over to page Two....it's been up since Monday.

You can see my homemmade ones in my (bleeding) hand, as well as the baits I use for pike and a decent fish taken that Sunday on the rig. MAYBE SCOTT COULD CUT "N PASTE IT HERE?!

I just take the length leader I want, put treble hook in snap , then tie a short snell or stinger hook dealybob with another treble out of 30# or little heavier mono, Place it in the snap with treble hook . Sometimes if snell is a little long I wind it around my smelt to hold it on a little better . Don't usually even have to set the hook when they run and you stop them they are hooked. after a couple big ones change out snell if worn. You can do the same thing with another short steel leader in place of mono , just place short leader and treble in first snap and  treble on short leader.Good Luck

take 12" of leader and put a treble hook on each end. The fold it right in the middle and put a leader crimp on it now you have a quick strike that can be used on different sized bait and the bait hangs horizontally(if u r using live or dead bait).

Good luck JB!
