When crawfish die, there is a pigment in them that makes them an orangish red color.  Alot of people assume that is the color they need to match when imitating a crawfish, but most are hues of green, brown, bluish when alive.  How long after you caught that bass was it before you cleaned it?  Can't believe the tail would have disolved in a couple hours!!

We do alot of sight fishing in clear lakes thru the ice, and see alot of crawfish in the sand grass or perch grass that covers the bottom in 6-12 fow in alot of lakes.  I have even caught them by laying my jig on the bottom in front of them.  They will grab the spikes, waxies or whatever your bait is with the large claw.  If you pull them up quickly before they let go, you can take a good look at them.  I have also seen 4 or 5 one inch craws in perch stomachs before.  When you find that in one perch, chances are all the perch you caught that day will have them in them.  Wonder what they were eating that day?? ;)

Wax Worm is right. I do a lot of sight fishing myself and I see craws up on the shallow flats in the perch grass and even scooting across the sand. Two weekends ago I watched at least 5 go crawling across the bottom.

i have seen more mudd puppies this year than crawdad's. Although most of the trout i clean have craws in them.

no i didn't eat the gill, but i like the way he thinks. lol

TKO:
interesting about the trout, i wonder if some craw sent down about twenty holes on your perimeter mite work! then pound a fake craw n 1/2oz jig on the bottom to make noise.

Only one way to find out River Scum. You got a jug of craw scent? we can give it a try.
