4 guys also went through Greenwood Lake NY yesterday, which is only 30 miles from the PA border................ .... Fell through coming off the ice at the end of the day!!!
The gravel has been blocking the road for probably 5 years, this was the first life threatening issue that brought it to the headline. There was not an attempt to remove the pile during the rescue, the fire chief asked the township to remove the pile after the incident because it suddenly became apparent how dangerous it was. The people sat on the pile when the township showed up and the state police stopped the removal of the pile until someone can get a legal reading on the road block. I wonder if the morons sitting on the pile realize that it takes emergency vehicles longer to reach them due to the pile?
The residents claim they had no clue a rescue was going on....Are they serious...the noise of numerous rescue vehicles is something you wouldn't realize or wouldn't think twice about...a fence is supposedly going to be erected...are you telling me no one in the entire community thought of that before? I think they just decided to take the cheap/ easy way out and dump a pile of gravel instead
Has anyone in that area written a letter to the editor decrying such shameful behavior. Their selfish act in putting a gravel pile in to prevent access to the lake galls me. I think that maybe, just maybe, they were getting too many fishermen going in at that spot. They probably parked at the best ice to get on the lake. As a result, just maybe those folks were forced to try to get on the lake by parking elsewhere and squeezing onto their precious ice over a dangerous/bad ice area leading to the disaster in the first place. Just speculation, but a logical deduction in my view. I need more facts on the incident in the first place.
It is speculation and a little flawed. The road that was blocked connects Monroe lake and Tego Lake developments, people took this road as a short cut from Creek Road to Coolbaugh road and the residents of Tego lake blocked the road quite a few years ago to stop people from using it as a thoroghfare. There have been letters written and aired on WNEP. It was an unfortunate chain of events and hopefully things will get corrected now.
Could you please supply the name of the local newspaper? Also, from what you are saying, the gravel blocked only access from one road to another (a shortcut between roads), and not direct access to the lake. Also, is it verified that the residents prevented or hindered emergency personnel from getting to the rescue?
What do you guys expect from a bunch of city slickers from NY or New Jersey? Par for the course if you ask me. It's (the people) the reason I never head to the Poconos for anything really (I live just outside of them, ugh). The northern tier of PA is much more hospitable and a hell of a lot more peaceful.
