tip up question

hey i fish a lake infested with pike and decided im going to put some tip ups out this weekend but i never really use em-

the lake is kind of like 2 very deep holes with a 12' foot plateuo in the middle- where would i put my tip ups?

o.... and im using shiners and suckers if that makes a difference

Look for weed beds and place your tip up baits just above the weeds. also make sure you use steel leaders above your hooks.  Shiners should work great.

if im using a steel leader hooked to a treble do i hafto put a mono leader between the braided and the steel ?

I wouldnt.  Just tie directly on.

I wish I lived up there with you that would be fun.  I personally fish for pike quite a bit.  I recomend a two foot wire leader be sure to put a swivel inbetween the braid and the steel.  I make myown leaders which I highly recomend this way you have one end with a crimped on swivel and the other end has the hooks of your choice crimped.  It works beautiful.  There is a big debate about using floro carbon of high strengths over steel but I still use steel.  Look only there are some real good leader materials out there that have flexibility to them which is awesome.  Any other questions you can send me a pm.

Good luck make those holes at least 8 inches and have a ball becareful it is addictive.\

put the tipups wherevery you usually see the pike..i use 20 pund mono tied to a steel leader, blood red hook and a minnow

try to set them right off of the drop offs
