Open or closed?

When dead sticking for trout (splake) should i have the bail open or closed?

i leave it open, cause if its a big one he wont hit it very hard and when he swims away from it he'll feel the resistance and drop it. if its open he'll swim away and swallow it!  but that's just me!

bail closed and set the drag as light as you can and you will hear it run. That has worked for me over and over.

bail closed and set the drag as light as you can and you will hear it run. That has worked for me over and over.

Dito, buy a reel that sounds like a bell when line is being riped off it, I like the Eagle Claw Avenger, it's inexpensive ($12.00) and is a pretty decent reel for deadsticking..
