LOOKING FOR A ANGLE FOR THE DERBY HUH? WE USE THE SMALL ONES FOR TROUT + SALMON. THE ONLY BAIT THATS BETTER IN MY OPINION IS SMELT.IVE BEEN CATCHING SOME 10 TO 12 INCHERS AND KEEPING THEM IN MY BAIT TANK BUT HAVENT FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THEM TO MAKE THE 4 HR. DRIVE DOWN THERE.SHOULD BE A AWESOME BAIT.SEE YA AT THE DERBY!

Fall fish are the bait of first choice. Golden shiners being 2nd when i can't trap any fall fish. Bigredonice, apparently you are fishing too close to the bottom if you are catching catfish instead of musky. olds

Swalleyi, a fallfish is a minnow similar to the creekchub. It is very hardy when trapped during ice time and can survive a few trips to the lake if it has not been eaten by some toothy critter such as a walleye. It is native to the James Bay watershed, and south to the eastern side of the Appalachians.       olds

catch them in streams with trout sounds like a great idea to use them for bait.
