ice depth on the flaming gorge!
« on: Jan 11, 2008, 01:44 AM »
if anyone was curious, on my way home from the gorge last night i drove down to tha access 1 passed holmes crossing to check the ice depth, and it was about 3 inches! it cracked a little as i walked out on it but it seemed o.k. but it was hair raising being over 90 plus feet of water(if you know what i mean)  :o :o

Thanks for the update on the ice, that is encouraging! I had one of the best ice fishing days I have ever had several years ago when Big Bend was frozen up good, catching the bejezus out of small Macs.

i was at anvil draw today! ice was around 6 inches! :thumbsup:hooked in to a few macks, only about 3 to 4 lbs thou fishing the island by the boat launch. we started out on the middle at 90 fow, which was slow only a few hits. about noon we hit the island for ling but only got the little macks!(which was fun anyways)the middle was spooky, you could hear the ice cracking violently down the lake which felt like a small earth quack!all in all the fishing should be getting good around anvil!!!!

At Breeze Hill, the ice is about 8-10-ish, real clear ice. From the top of the hill looking WAY south, about anvil area, there is openwater it looked like. I got one small mac and a  ling that is in me now. Missed a large number of nibblers.
Going back in the AM.
