I caught some typically colored perch this morning, and some of them had noticible blue on their gill plates.

every year we get one or two of these ice fishing on Lake Erie. They are extremely blue when you first pull them out of the hole, but the color seems to fade quickly as the fish lies on the ice.

thats really cool! similar to blue pike, too. if you can use perch as bait over there, definitly use some of those, fish naturally go after albinos and the such

Very interesting, we used to have blue pike in NY, but I heard that overfishing wiped them out - wonder if that trait is showing up in new species...pretty cool at any rate...

So what I want to know is if the entire yellow perch population turns blue are we going to rename them?

I caught a Blue perch on Dec. 23 on a landlocked lake in Brighton, Mi. The lake was stocked with perch approx 10 yrs ago. The blue was compared to a yellow perch, the blue had double the stripes. The dorsal fin and stripes were blue in color and the background was white/pink color. The pictures posted in this thread look like the  perch I caught. I posted a report on bluewalleye.com, the site is a research tool for the blue walleye that are more common in Canada. They are also interested in the blue perch.
