New Years Eve on the Ottawa
« on: Jan 01, 2008, 10:39 AM »
After a few Pm's last back and fourth between Eric and I last night the decision was made to hunt down some Ottawa River walleye yet again. Nodie had also contacted me a couple times as I promised to put him onto  fish if he was up for a trek. The plan was to punch out a few spots to find the main transitions and daytime migrating route the walleye are holding too....The bite was on and off all day. Needless to say the three of us all caught nice fish. If we weren't marking them, off to the next hole. Missed a really heavy fish as we were ready to leave due to a reel malfunction  :-\ Il be back at 'er the rest of the week and hopefully get out for some splake too.

I will let the pictures explain  :)

Eric started the morning off with a beauty, a new PB eye through the ice..

Back down the hole she went..Picture doesn't do justice, the back on this fish was thick!

Nodie with his first walleye of the year and a new PB...I am so happy for you Oliver!!

The release..

Another average walleye...

Ya have to eat too...Limit of gold

That's great to see some of you younger guys really getting into fishing, using the electronics out there and learning how to jig up some quality fish.   Those are some really nice looking walleyes all around and a great set of pictures    Hope you have a great new year and catch a bunch more

CrappieHunter, %90 of the time I am using a Buckshot Rattle Spoon from NorthlandTackle. That spoon also took the two bigger fish caught that day  ;D

Don't worry Ive been saving the cheek meat on all my walleye's this year. Ive got quite a few so far. Going to fry them all up at the end of the year once I have enough.

Thanks for the tip on the lure. Do you just jig the heck out of it??? It's new to me to try to jig for walleye. Here's the link to the lures if anyone else is interested...

Good lookin' mess of walleyes! Need to catch me some this year. Only caught one and it was on a boat...only fished for them once though too.

Do you just jig the heck out of it??? It's new to me to try to jig for walleye.

I do jig it vigorously to get the full effect of the spoon..find they hit it on the pause most of the time.
