Crooked, Steuben

Anybody ever fish it through the ice? I just got permission to park in the area in red. Any info about the area would be great. I only ever fished the lake once or twice in the summer.

I live about 2 minutes from Crooked and fish it all the time in the summer, mostly for bass and some early spring crappie. There is a good walleye population in it and if you watch you will see guys jigging for walleye in the 1st and 2nd basin. If you are after crappie or bluegill the area right out in front of where you are parking and to the right where the 90 degree bend in the break is can be good. I will say, though, I have not ice fished it in years. There are just too many better lakes here in Steuben. There are some really good crappies and decent sized 'gills in it with good numbers of both. The problem is they have killed all the weeds in the lake the last few years and the fish do not hold in the same areas as they used to. This lake used to be in the top 3 IMO of the best bass lakes in northern Indiana. It is now just a decent bass lake. For a few years it was nearly the NO BASS LAKE, but it is slowly rebounding due to the fact that they haven't killed every green living thing in the lake (only 85 percent of them >:() the last few years. Like I said it still does have a good population of 'gills and crappies, but finding them may be tough. Most of the guys fishing will be after the walleye. God Bless and Good Luck!
