cooney walleye?????
« on: Dec 31, 2007, 02:37 PM »
fished cooney yesterday and caught 5 trout.  4 pound and a halfers and one about 3 pounds.  Going to try and figure out the walleyes.  never fished for them before.  from what ive read minnows seem to be the trick and jigging spoons.  Any info would be appreciated.  going tomarrow with the wife so will probably just fish for trout.

Just got back today caught 2 trout and lost a couple more and missed a couple more. where on the lake were they fishing?  Wonder if night fishing would be productive?  is it worth going after them with out a fish finder or flasher or do you just try lots of depths till you find them? thanks for all the info

I fished Cooney on the 1st as well.  The ice is a good 12", I never really measured.  I caught one trout, maybe a 2 pounder. I was marking some fish on my fish finder, but couldn't get them interested. It was pretty windy and I was trying to keep a couple of nephews rigged up and fishing.

Chucknduck,

Where were you fishing?  We started out just west of Willow Creek and didn't get anything, moved to the Willow Creek Bay area and thats where we starting seeing some fish.  Can you give me some pointers on what to use for bait?

For walleye, try a jiggin rapala with some fresh shrimp on one of the trebles.  Or a jig head with a night crawler on it, or a jigging spoon.

not sure where willow creek is but we were just off the point between the two arms.  heading in from the south shore rd we went past the first creek that dumps in and went to that next fising acess.  two days before i fished just out from fishermans point (i think) pretty much directly across the bay.  As far as baits I was using small chartreuse jigs with maggots about 9 ft.  we were fishing in about 25 ft of water. before i was only fishing in about 13.  seemed to do better in the shollower water.

rrfish,
thanks for the info ill let you know how it works.
