How do you adjust or set your jig/bait after you have set the slammer without getting slapped in the face?

The same way you do with setting the flag on a tip-up....
 DON'T PUT YOUR FACE IN FRONT OF ANYTHING THAT COULD "THAWP" YOU!!!
