My CHUBBIES came today...
« on: Nov 03, 2007, 02:48 PM »
I think they will work just fine I ordered some 2inch and some 1 3/8 inch. Rigged one of each up and outto the horse tank I went. They look so much better than the rapalas..I cant wait to go entice some fish. I really like the luminesent orange. Should work great at night

I like the way they look, like the way they act in the water, and I keep buying them as they come out with new sizes and colours...only problem....I have not caught a thing on them

IceJunky:

Same here.  I have every size and color available last year and still have not been able to get a walleye to go.

Last year, I watched them on the aqua Vu come up, take a look and retreat.  Different variations of jigging produced nada.

Hopefully this year will be different   ;)

I was in the same boat with the lack of interest from the 'eyes 'til I got fed up swimming it at Quinte and tipped each treble with a 2" dace and bang - 8lber!  It's a well used bait in my arsenal now, LOL.

chubbys are meant to be fished without bait, if your tipping it with a minnow you might as well be fishing a jig/minnow  ;)

Say what you will about them "suppose" to be fished without bait but you have to do what works. I tip mine all the time and the big perch just love them that way ;)

interesting that you say they're successful with minnows on the hooks, because i, like the other, couldn't get any fish to bite mine without bait, even when they were actively hitting everything else i threw at 'em.  maybe i'll try with some minnow this year

I had a lot of success last winter using Chubbies on walleye.  When I would see them on the vexilar come up and look at the chubbie jigging and not bite, I would reel up and put a fathead's head on the belly treble hook and put right back down and jig again.  Often a aggresive hit would follow.

Thats all I would do too, minnow head on the belly hook ;)

I too have almost every size and colour. The glow colours are my go to lure. I've caught bass, perch, walleye, trout and muskie on them. When fishing clear water they seem to work great. But I hardly ever have success on stained water. It got to the point last season that I would head out on the ice without live bait. I could always find a swimming lure or plastic the fish would hit. I don't think I could have done it without the vex or the camera though. It's just one of those lures you have to stick with until get some success, when you do you'll never want to stop using it.
